Cub Swanson's featherweight evolution took its next step at UFC on Fuel 7 on Saturday.
The Jackson's MMA fighter had impressed with wins in each of his three previous fights. But he put it all together in London to defeat a game Dustin Poirier in the co-main event in London. Swanson scored a well-rounded unanimous decision victory, earning scores of 29-28, 30-27, and 30-27.
Swanson got the best of round one, as he peppered Poirier with crisp, varied, and accurate striking.

Poirier, who has recently changed his affiliation to the American Top Team, changed the tenor of the fight in round two, the closest round of the fight, as he landed kicks from distance to slow the onslaught. Poirier managed a takedown, but Swanson immediately turned it into an omplata and soon was back on his feet.
Poirier came out swinging in round three. But Swanson scored a takedown less than two minutes in. He got Poirier's back as Poirier tried to get back to his feet, then reversed his way into top position and Poirier tried to get rid of him. Later in the round, Swanson landed a sweet judo throw as he took control of the round and sealed the win.
Swanson, a native of Palm Springs, Calif., improved to 19-5 and won for the fifth time in his past six fights. Poirier suffered his second loss in his past three fights and is now 13-3.
