UFC on Fuel 7 results: James Te-Huna outslugs Ryan Jimmo

Esther Lin

Ryan Jimmo came out with a monstrous first round in his UFC on Fuel 7 bout with James Te-Huna. Te-Huna matched him round two and repeated in round three.

That was enough to give the New Zealander the victory in a light heavyweight slugfest in London on Saturday. The scores were 29-27, 29-28, and 29-28.

Te-Huna (16-5) won his fourth straight fight; the Blackzilian Jimmo had his 17-fight win streak snapped.

In the opening round, Jimmo floored Te-Huna with a monster head kick, then unleashed a series of furious elbows on the ground. Te-Huna withstood the assault, but Jimmo continued to dominate for the remainder of the round.

The tough New Zealander returned the favor in round two. Though there weren't any flashy head kicks, Te-Huna delivered a brutal ground-and-pound assault of his own in the final minute. The pace finally slowed in the third, but Te-Huna got the better of the round, scoring a takedown with two minutes left and controlling the action from there.

"He hurt me pretty bad got me pretty bad ... a couple that he followed up on, if he hit me with some hard shots he probably would have got me. But I managed to survive the round, in the second round I noticed he was weaker on his back, and I took it from there."
