UFC on FOX 3 Live Blog: Pat Barry vs. Lavar Johnson

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- This is the UFC on FOX 3 live blog for Pat Barry vs. Lavar Johnson, a heavyweight bout on Saturday night's UFC event from the IZOD Center.

Barry, who has lost two of his last three fights, will fight Johnson, who won his UFC debut earlier this year, on the main card.

Round 1: Dan Miragliotta is the referee for this battle of hard-hitting heavyweights. Barry with a low leg kick. Johnson aims for a Muay Thai clinch and the two push back toward the fence. Barry with a high kick. Back to center Octagon. Johnson with a knee as they Greco clinch along the fence. Johnson connects with a couple knees and opens up with a series of punches. Barry, along the fence, clinches Johnson and regains his bearings. Barry goes for a takedown. Johnson sprawls, but Barry manages to get top position, and maneuvers into side control. Barry attempts a Kimura. He's got it locked in pretty tight, but Johnson breaks out of it. Barry still in side control with two minutes left. Johnson tries to get out, but Barry continues to win the positional battle. Johnson spins out and is back to his feet. One minute left. Johnson with a low kick and a knee. Johnson knocks Barry backward and has him reeling toward the fence. Barry standing, covers up, Johnson lands a couple dozen punches. Barry is down and Mirgaliotta waves the fight off. Just too much power for Barry to handle. I counted 36 punches, an elbow and a knee looking at the replay on the big screen.
