Round 1: Velasquez comes out bobbing and weaving to start the bout. He catches a Silva low kick and uses it to put him down, peppering him with punches from the guard as soon as they hit the floor. Decent upkick by Silva gives Velasquez something to think about, but he stays on top and keeps the pressure on with elbow strikes. Silva is cut and bleeding everywhere. Referee Josh Rosenthal wants to let the doctor have a look. The doc decides it's okay and they restart on the mat. Still three minutes to go in the round. Velasquez resumes his attack from the top. Silva keeps shaking his head, trying to clear the blood from his eyes. He is a mess. It's already to the point where it might be unsafe. Silva rolls to his knees and Velasquez keeps hammering him. He rolls to his back to show that he's still doing something, and Velasquez batters him with a series of merciless lefts. Rosenthal watches as Silva does nothing in response to the punches, then finally steps in to stop it. Dominant victory for Velasquez, and one that was even worse than it needed to be for Silva.
