Igor Pokrajac and Fabio Maldonado threw everything but the kitchen sink at one another on Tuesday night, as they went the full 15 minutes in their UFC on Fuel TV 3 light heavyweight bout.
In a potential fight of the night battle, which often seemed to come down to Pokrajac's attempted at landing knees from the clinch vs. Maldonado's boxing, Pokrajac was just a little bit better in the judges' eyes. Pokrajac won via unanimous decision, with scores of 29-28, 30-27 and 29-28.
Pokrajac has 18 first-round finishes in his career, and he worked for another one early in round one on the ground. Maldonado, though, rallied late in the round and began to score with his standup.
From there, the fight was on. Rounds two and three were back-and-forth affairs, with Pokrajac doing his most damage with knees from the clinch and Maldonado (18-5) wearing down the Croatian with combos to the head and body. While the fight seemed razor-thin, the judges all saw it Pokrajac's way.
With the victory, Pokrajac improved to 25-8 and has won four of his past five. Maldonado has now been on the wrong end of two debatable decisions, losing a fight of the night to Kyle Kingsbury last June.
