UFC 145 Live Blog: Mark Bocek vs. John Alessio

This is the UFC 145 live blog for Mark Bocek vs. John Alessio, a lightweight bout on tonight's UFC event from Philips Arena in Atlanta, Ga.

Bocek, who has won two of his past four fights, will fight Alessio, who will have his first UFC fight since UFC 60, on the main card.

Round 1: And UFC 145 is officially underway. Alessio and Bocek circle and trade jabs to start things off. Bocek drops levels and shoots for a takedown. Alessio defends, but gives up his back in the process and Bocek drags him to the mat. Bocek advances to half guard and uncorks a series of short elbows. Alessio works his way back to full guard, but Bocek postures, lands a hard shot and gets back into half guard. Bocek transitions to Alessio's back and locks in a body triangle. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Bocek.

Round 2: Alessio sprints out like he's looking for a superman punch, but decides to hold off at the last second. Alessio circles and finds his mark with a pair of one-twos. Alessio is starting to find his range with the jab now. Bocek senses it and shoots in for a big power double, landing in his opponent's guard. Back to half guard and then side control. Alessio transitions back to half guard before scrambling to his feet and charging forward with a flurry. Bocek changes levels again and pushes Alessio against the fence. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Bocek.

Round 3: The message from Alessio's corner is simple: "Let's knock this motherf***er out, Johhny." Alessio apparently listened as he opens the round with a powerful counter left hand. But Bocek again shoots in and tosses Alessio to the mat, taking his back and looking for the choke. Bocek is completely controlling this fight. Alessio finally spins his way out to safety and stands. It's short lived though, as a bloodied Bocek drags the fight back down. Alessio sneaks out the back and turns up the pace. A minute left and Alessio probably needs to do something drastic. Bocek clinches against the fence and works his dirty boxing. Alessio disengages and misses with a wild right hand as the horn sounds. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Bocek.
