UFC on FX 2 Live Blog: Court McGee vs. Constantinos Philippou Updates

This is the UFC on FX 2 live blog for Court McGee vs. Constantinos Philippou, a middleweight bout on tonight's UFC event from the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia.

McGee (13-1) is unbeaten in three UFC fights, holding wins against Kris McCray, Ryan Jensen and Dongi Yang. Philippou (9-2) went 2-1 in the UFC last year, losing in his UFC debut to Nick Catone and then beating Jorge Rivera and Jared Hamman.

Round 1: Josh Sharp is the referee for tonight's first televised bout. Philippou circles early as McGee presses forward with a straight right. Philippou grazes McGee and follows with another that lands flush. Both fighters appear tentative two minutes in. Philippou paws with his jab. McGee feigns a takedown, but Philippou backs off. The crowd is growing restless. Philippou gauges his distance and moves on the aggressive with a right hand. McGee shoots in but Philippou circles and counters. Blood is starting to trickle out of McGee's nose. Thirty seconds left and Philippou fights off another takedown. McGee answers with a stiff left hand that puts Philippou on wobbly legs. "The Crusher" rushes in but it's too late, the round is over. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for McGee.

Round 2: McGee backs up Philippou with a left hook and presses forward with a flurry. McGee steps forward but eats a right hand for his troubles. Philippou circles and storms forward with a right that just misses. Philippou wings a left, but McGee counters with a head kick. Philippou is light on his feet and staying active, picking McGee apart from range. Philippou lands a crushing uppercut but McGee closes the distance and survives. McGee shoots in again but still nothing. Another shot and Philippou uncorks a big uppercut that has McGee on the retreat. McGee misses with a spinning elbow and the fighters trade flurries to close the round. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Philippou.

Round 3: Both fighters touch gloves to open the final frame. McGee's corner is urging him to look for the finish. Philippou circles, trying to find his range with an uppercut. McGee pressures forward but Philippou avoids damage. Another exchange and Philippou is greeted by a kick to the groin. After a brief break the action resumes and Philippou somehow fights off another deep takedown. McGee finds a home for a flying knee but Philippou eats it and walks forward. McGee just misses with a spinning kick and spinning elbow. He's desperately pulling everything out of his bag of tricks. One minute left and McGee uncorks an overhand right, but can't drag the fight to the mat. Philippou fights off another takedown and responds with a counter left hook. McGee throws another spinning backfist but still can't find his mark. Another exchange and the fight comes to a close. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Philippou.
