After a bout that was defined by strangeness and unusual behavior, UFC 168's main event between Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva was set up to answer the question of whether their first bout at UFC 162 was a fluke. Given the way their second bout ended, some of those questions are bound to stick around as their second bout was halted after Silva suffered a gruesome and potentially career-ending injury.

Before that happened, however, Weidman was cruising.

The champion opened the show scoring a trip, but Silva stood against the fence and fired a knee to Weidman's midsection. Weidman tagged Silva with an overhand right, dropping him there and nearly put him out, but Silva managed to hang on. Silva locked up full guard, but Weidman scored with a series of hard elbows and potshots over the top of his guard. Weidman can't break Silva's guard and the former champion is landing decent shots from the bottom, but was being chewed up. Weidman landed one hard shot before the end of the round as he stood on top.

Round two is where things got disastrous.

The two spent time feeling each other out, but it was Weidman, checking a leg kick from Silva, that caused the end. Silva's shin broke as it connected with Weidman's, sending the all-time great screaming in pain as he hit the mat. The bout was immediately halted there by referee Herb Dean.

The end came officially at 1:16 of round two.

"No matter what happened in this fight, he's still the greatest of all time. I wish him the best, and God bless him," Weidman said. "That was the number one thing I got hit with the first fight. I worked a lot with guys with kicks, but it's still crazy how that happened."

Weidman's record climbs to 11-0 while Silva's drops to 33-6.

Miesha Tate did the impossible, it seems, but it still wasn't good enough. Despite pushing UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey to the third round of their co-main event bout at UFC 168, Tate still succumbed to the patented armbar in what was a frenetic, wild affair.

Rousey started off with a roll-through trip and scored a hard knee against Tate's midsection against the fence. She moved to pressing Tate into the fence, but they separated until Rousey was able to score something of an accidental ankle pick. Tate framed for a triangle, but Rousey resisted only to be briefly taken down before Rousey frames up her own triangle.

They briefly separated and tagged each other with jabs and straights until Rousey, not once but twice, tosses Tate to the mat. Rousey even framed for an armbar, but couldn't really finish it.

In the second round, the two traded shots, but Tate attempted a double and got absolutely tossed, but somehow Rousey backed out and let her stand up. Seconds later, Rousey scored a trip and put Tate on her back. Tate was able to stand, but was controlled against the cage and ate a series of hard punches.

Rousey won a grappling exchange, but was unable to score an armbar, but was able to finish the frame in an inverted back mounted triangle, but Tate did just enough to survive.

By the third round, Rousey took over. Tate was able to avoid a series of submission attempts, but Rousey, seemingly being reversed in position, was able to reach across, go belly down and secure the armbar. Tate tapped almost immediately. The end came officially at :58 of the third round.

Rousey moves to 8-0 in MMA while Tate slides to 13-5.

Travis Browne isn't the fighter of the year for 2013, but 2013 was the year of his career.
The round opened with Barnett cornering Browne, pressing him into the clinch, but Browne was initially able to escape. Barnett also failed on his first takedown, but kept the pressure on.The end was not far away, however, as Barnett tried to pressure for a takedown, but ended up eating a hard knee from Browne. Barnett changed levels as he pressed Browne into the fence as a result, but once there, Browne unleashed an incredible series of all legal elbows to the side of Barnett's head, leaving the Strikeforce veteran leaning unconscious against the cage.

The end came officially at 1:00 of the first round via knockout. Browne is now expected to face Fabricio Werdum in a bout that could decide who faces UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.

"I'm a MMA fighter. You better realize that. You better realize that," Browne said in a message to other heavyweights in his post-fight comments. "I'm coming for you."

Browne's record jumps to 16-1-1 while Barnett drops to 33-7.

In a battle of jiu-jitu black belts, it was the American who came out on 'top', as lightweight Jim Miller armbarred Fabricio Camoes in the first round of their main card bout at UFC 168.

Miller, the southpaw, had issues with Camoes' left hook early on as he was tagged both at the beginning and ending of combinations. However, he was able to land an inside elbow as the two exchanged and Camoes closed the distance. Miller first scored his own takedown off of a caught kick, but Camoes was able to reverse him and establish top position.

Just as Camoes was battering Miller on top, however, Miller turned underneath and framed an ultra-tight armbar. Camoes couldn't stand as Miller blocked it by underhooking his leg. Camoes, with nowhere to go, lost control of his own grip and couldn't regain it. He tapped quickly thereafter.

Poirier, using patience and superior technique, overwhelmed the Brazilian, earning a TKO stoppage just before the final bell of the first round.

The two opened blasting each other, Poirier the southpaw. The two exchanged a series of heavy punches - including a kick from Brandao that was nearly illegal - but the first came from Poirier, who cracked a flat-footed Brandao with a right against the fence. Brandao returned the favor and nearly scored a takedown, but Poirier used a whizzer to stuff it and keep the fight standing. Despite being telegraphed, Brandao secured a double leg takedown, but Poirier was able to quickly stand.

From there, however, Poirier tuned it on and took over the bout.

Poirier was able to use his significant reach advantage and Brandao's seeming fatigue to potshot the Brazilian over and over against the fence, mixing in takedown attempts and overhand punches. Brandao eventually collapsed to the mat, but Poirier had to follow up, secure position and pour on shots against the fence before referee Mario Yamasaki saw fit to end it.

"Diego missing weight really sucked because I busted my butt to make weight," Poirier said. "I didn't get to enjoy Thanksgiving or Christmas because I'm a professional and making weight is what we agree to do. Honestly him missing weight isn't what got me so angry though. He started yelling and trash talking before weigh ins because he claimed I looked at him weird or something. It felt good to finish him because of that little issue before we weighed in yesterday. I'm just fortunate that I have great coaches and teammates around me who help me get better every day."

The conclusion came at 4:54 of the very first round, via TKO. Poirier moves to 15-3 in MMA while Brandao drops to 18-9.

In a fight that is likely the last of Chris Leben's UFC career, the veteran of the very first The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) was defeated by TUF 17 finalist Uriah Hall via TKO after Leben, nearly finished with strikes in the first round, told his corner and ringside officials he no longer wished to keep fighting at UFC 168.

Leben never was able to get much going. As the bell sounded to start the fight, Hall landhed a flying knee. A visibly hurt Leben tried to clinch, but Hall was able to circle out. Leben spent time pursuing, but Hall just kept moving backwards to avoid the strikes and time Leben as he stood still. This went on for several minutes and Hall landed a few knees to the body, but spent an inordinate amount of time backpedaling. Leben conencted with an inside leg kick, but ate an elbows and series of jabs. Towards the end of the frame, however, Leben ate a monster right and collapsed alongside the fence. Hall followed up, but couldn't put Leben away before the end of the round.

However, Leben told his corner and ringside officials he no longer wished to continue and the fight was halted before the second round began.

"I really wanted to go out there and finish the year in style so that result was disappointing," Hall said. "I didn't expect that type of ending but all things considered I felt good out there. It was a relief to get my first win in the UFC and for me fighting is a scary experience so it's about going out there and overcoming that fear. I enjoy this but I have a different mindset then most fighters do. I'm a martial artist, not a fighter."

Johnson had his moments in the early going where he had to overcome adversity. Tibau, the much heavier and more experienced fighter, cracked Johnson with hard punches, particularly a left hook. Johnson was never rocked and stayed composed, but didn't get to victory without overcoming a bit of adversity first. Johnson also landed a right hand in the frame that briefly stumbled Tibau, but it appeared to be the Brazilian's round.

The second round is where everything changed. Neither seemed to be getting any advantage until Johnson threw a combination with a left straight that landed just behind the ear of Tibau. The strike immediately sent Tibau crumpled to the mat. Johnson followed up with a set of perfunctory strikes until referee Yves Lavigne stepped in.

The end came officially at 1:32 of the second round via knockout.

It was the slugfest that wasn't. Despite what was expected to be a striking fan's delight, Siyar Bahadurzada and John Howard instead fought a workman-like affair with the American eventually coming out on top.

Both fighters opened the first round orthodox, but it was Howard who took center of the cage, a theme that would resurface over the course of the fight. The first few minutes were spent exchanging single strikes. Howard threw leg kicks and single body shots while Bahadurzada pumped the jab and tried to score with hooks. They eventually clinched along the fence, but Bahadurzada was able to force separation. Howard tried a pair of takedown attempts, but they went nowhere. It wasn't until a third attempt that Howard caught a knee perfectly timed from a strike the Afghan fighter threw. Bahadurzada nearly gave up his back as he stood, but was able to create separation.

The second round started with Howard landing a monster left hook only for Bahadurzada to return the favor. The two clinched against the fence trading short shots, but Bahadurzada was able to stuff a takedown attempt only to execute one of his own. Howard moves his back against the fence and tried to posture for a triangle, but the Afghan backed out of it. Both fighters were able to land solid strikes before separating. At this point, the two showed visible signs of exhaustion, and had a hard time generating any form of momentum. Before the round expired, Bahadurzada locked up a kimura grip trying to defend a Howard takedown along the fence only for Howard to scoop Bahadurzada onto his shoulders, carry him across the cage and dump him in a thudding slam. The round ended with the two in the clinch after scrambling directly after the slam.

In the final frame, Howard returned to his bread and butter, starting the round with a leaping left hook that cracked the Afghan fighter. Howard failed on a takedown attempt, but scored instead with a series of punches as the two separated. Bahadurzada literally put his hands on his hips prior to Howard eventually dragging him to the mat still early into the frame. From top position and postured up, Howard absolutely bombed on Bahadurzada, but the Afghan was able to roll back into butterfly guard. On top of an exhausted Bahadurzada, Howard moved to mount only to take his back when Bahadurzada rolled. Howard wasn't able to put Bahadurzada away, but ended the round in the dominant position.

The judges scored it 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, giving Howard the unanimous decision win. It's Howard's sixth victory inside the UFC. His record moves to 22-8 while Bahadurzada slides to 21-6-1.
