Ben Rothwell vs. Ovince Saint Preux in the works for UFC card on May 13

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

A heavyweight fight between Ben Rothwell and Ovince Saint Preux is currently in the works for the upcoming UFC card in Jacksonville, Fla. on May 13.

Sources confirmed the expected matchup to MMA Fighting on Friday following an initial report from ESPN.

Rothwell was originally attached to the UFC 249 card on April 18 with a fight scheduled against Gian Villante. Now it appears Rothwell will face Saint Preux instead as the veteran heavyweight seeks to build on his last win where he knocked out Stefan Struve this past December.

Meanwhile, Saint Preux is expected to jump up to heavyweight to fight on the May 13 card after spending his entire career competing at 205 pounds.

Saint Preux was initially scheduled to fight on the now cancelled UFC card in Lincoln, Neb. on April 25 against Ion Cutelaba. Unfortunately, Cutelaba will not able to gain entry into the United States, which forced Saint Preux to get a new opponent.

Now he’s expected to clash with Rothwell at heavyweight on May 13.

More fights including a main event for the show are expected to be announced in the coming days.

Interesting

This is a very interesting fight

How will OSP’s striking and submission threat match up with Rothwell’s power ?

Rothwell is one of the most flat footed fighters I ever seen, so i’d expect OSP to pick him apart, but…

As Rockhold and Weidman found out, moving up is not always a good thing, and OSP has seen better days…

Rothwell is also far away from his best. Still, it’s a fun fight, the fans win anyway

I think it depends on how you move up

Rockhold decided to bulk up and cut a lot of weight to get to 205, which defeats the purpose of a speed advantage when you are still depleting yourself and I think Weidman should’ve retired a while ago. With all that said I think this’ll be a fun fight.

From what I heard, Weidman didn’t even add weight.

He just cut to 205 from his normal weight.

GSP did the same thing as Rockhold, didn't he ?

I think GSP was walking around 205 and had to cut some pounds to make 185…correct me if i’m wrong

Yeah, maybe OSP will find a way to do well, but age is against him.

King of Kenosha!!

Round two sub

It's pretty much guaranteed something strange will happen in this one

I don't think OSP has a future at heavyweight

But he should be able to win against Big Ben who isn’t the shadow of who he used to be without the steroids.

No way

Rothwell should dominate with his size. OSP is getting KTFO.

Yeah OSP doesn't have the time to put on the weight

But the size difference won’t be enough for Big Ben to dominate. He had a bigger advantage over Ivanov and looked silly. OSP is significantly smaller than Rothewell but he is still 6 ft 3 and has the reach advantage. I think Rothwell best chance is a big haymaker out of nowhere but I don’t see him dominating now that he is likely off the PEDs.

From KOing the biggest (at least tallest) UFC fighter to fighting light heavies

Big Ben is keeping things interesting. Please give us the evil laugh

Interesting

OSP is a family friend. I’m originally from Knoxville and much of my family still reside there.
When OSP decided to get into MMA I was shocked it wasn’t as a HW. He’s a LARGE and THICK human. I think seeing him at full strength could be thrilling.

But Rothwell is big for a HW. Still, speed kills
