Anderson Silva vs Yushin Okami

August 28, 2011 HSBC Arena, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

UFC middleweight title: Anderson Silva defeats Yushin Okami via knockout at 2:04 of Round 2. UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will defend his title against the last man to defeat him in Yushin Okami. The pair fought in January 2006 for Hawaii’s ‘Rumble on the Rock’ promotion during the first round of a 175lbs tournament. After pulling Okami into his active guard, Silva struck him in the face with an upkick, incapacitating Okami and ending the fight. Because the blow that ended the fight was found to be illegal, as a fighter cannot kick his opponent in the head while both knees are on the ground, Silva was disqualified. Okami was offered recovery time and the opportunity to continue the fight, but opted for the disqualification victory. He has also recently spent considerable time training with Chael Sonnen, who was on his way to a five-round decision victory to take Silva’s title at UFC 117 before he was submitted in the final minutes of the fifth round.
