Spence vs. Crawford Results: Live updates of the undercard and main event

Errol Spence (28-0, 22 knockouts) is the current WBC, IBF and WBA welterweight champion. He hasn’t fought since a knockout win over Yordenis Ugas on April 16, 2022.

Terence Crawford (39-0, 30 knockouts) is the current WBO welterweight champion. He defeated David Avanesyan via sixth-round knockout in his last outing this past December.

Tonight’s card starts with a 10-round bout between super welterweights Sergio Garcia and Yoenis Tellez.

Sergio Garcia vs. Yoenis Tellez

Round 1: Tellez working the jab and he slips a hook around Garcia’s defense. The much-more experienced Garcia lands a short right off a clinch. Tellez goes body-head, but Garcia keeps the defense high and tight. Referee has to warn Garcia about rabbit punches in the clinch. Garcia scores with a right to the body. There’s a 1-2 for Tellez. He avoids a Garcia uppercut. Garcia keeps coming forward with Tellez jabbing away. They trade body shots. Tellez using that head movement to avoid heavy shots. Right by Garcia as he pressures Tellez against the ropes. Good first round for both fighters.

Round 2: Tellez opens with a looping right, his offense already looking more adventurous. Garcia happen to stay in close as he scores with an uppercut. Tellez mixes in some sharp body work. Garcia throwing straight shots the body, there’s a right hand up top for him. Garcia is landing with combinations. Back to the body for Tellez. They’re trading as Garcia marches forward. Tellez’s hands are low and he keeps getting tagged even as he lands punches of his own. Nice exchange to close the round.

Round 3: Tellez with a combination that Garcia just eats. Garcia pops Tellez’s head back with an uppercut. Good 1-2 by Tellez. Garcia throwing that uppercut every time Tellez attacks the body. Whoa, right hand from Tellez just freezes Garcia, but he only squats without falling. As Garcia straightens up, he eats another hard shot and there’s the knockdown. Garcia answers the count, but he is in big trouble. Tellez pours it on and it’s not getting any better for Garcia. The referee has to step in.

Up next, the decorated Nonito Donaire takes on Alejandro Santiago for a vacant WBC bantamweight title.

Round 1: Both men firing from distance. Donaire working to cut off Santiago, who is sticking with his jab as he circles. Good counter left by Donaire. Santiago goes the body but absorbs another counter. Santiago doubles up on his jab and connects. Overhand right by Santiago. Nice left hook by Santiago as Donaire connects to the body.

Round 2: Donaire tracking the younger Santiago, but having difficulty getting past that jab. Counter left from Donaire connects. He advances with a combination. Good head movement from Donaire as he lands to the body. Santiago scores with a jab after a tight exchange. Glancing right by Donaire. Counter left by Donaire up top. Santiago throwing heavy hooks, he connects with a stiff one to the body.

Round 3: Donaire advances, but Santiago pops him with a quick straight left. Lead overhand right for Santiago. He backs Donaire up and puts on the pressure. Donaire blasts him with a right hand and there’s a cut on Santiago’s face as he’s staggered. Santiago back on the offense with a lead uppercut. Donaire just misses with a left uppercut. Right hand catches Santiago. Counter left scores for Donaire. Big round for the former champion.

Round 4: Donaire opens with jab pressure. Santiago letting his right hand fly freely, but he’s falling just short of connecting with power. Great jab work from Santiago. Santiago advances into a counter left from Donaire. They trade jabs. Donaire with a quick left to the body. Both continue to connect with stiff jabs. Step in left from Santiago. Donaire ends the round with a right to the chin.

Round 5: Donaire blocks an uppercut and catches Santiago with a left. Left jab backs Santiago up. Santiago with a right hand, Donaire goes to the body to slow him down. Santiago’s jab still effective. Right hand for Donaire. Santiago with a left hook, the right follow-up is blocked. Donaire to the body. Santiago rips Donaire with a slick combo. Nice short uppercut by Santiago, then he lands a left down the pipe. Another good combination from Santiago to close the round.

Round 6: Santiago advances with his left hook. He’s on the hunt in this round. Those combinations are flowing for Santiago. Donaire looks like he’s waiting for an opening to land a power shot. Good jab by Donaire. They’re stuck in a jab duel right now. Santiago pushes Donaire to the ropes and scores to the body while making Donaire miss. Hard rip to the body by Donaire. Close exchanges as we head into the second half of the fight.

Round 7: Santiago’s speed advantage playing out here and Donaire has to shell up to defend against a sharp combination. Cut opens up over Santiago’s left eye after a clash of heads. Donaire sitting down on that jab, but he can’t follow up with much. Counter jab by Santiago. Two hard punches connect for Santiago. Good long jab from Santiago. He scores with an uppercut to Donaire’s body.

Round 8: Right hand lands for Santiago as they clinch. Donaire hits a counter left. Lead left hook by Santiago and he shows beautiful footwork avoiding a counter. Santiago lands another combination. There’s a big left from Donaire. These two are scrapping. Santiago breaks Donaire’s defense down with a hesitation combination. They trade jabs. Santiago sticking Donaire as he circles. Donaire connects with a right. Santiago unloads with 15 seconds left to put an exclamation point on an exciting round.

Round 12: Santiago staying busy and Donaire is chasing him now. Donaire hasn’t had any luck finding the range in the second half of this fight. Cabrera bouncing his jab off of Cruz’s gloves. There’s a left from Cabrera leading into a clinch. Counter right by Cabrera. Quick right to the body by Cabrera. Cruz with a couple of body shots. Lead left by Cruz connects. Not a lot to score after three minutes.

Round 2: Cruz tags Cabrera with a few punches to open Round 2. Cabrera using his left hand to keep Cruz at range. Lead left by Cruz. Round 4: Cabrera circling and jabbing. Cruz doing his best to land anything off of the clinches. There’s an uppercut to the body by Cruz. Cabrera jabs to the body. He’s probing with the left hand. Neither fighter managing much sustained offense. Hard left by Cruz gets Cabrera’s attention. There’s another one, Cabrera not seeing it well.

Round 5: Cruz connects to the body, then fires one high. Right hand from Cabrera scores. Cruz having success now when Cabrera comes forward. Cruz works the body. Sharp counter left by Cabrera. Cruz wins a jab exchange. Big right by Cruz. He’s making this one ugly and Cabrera is not having a good time this round. Cruz warned about a headbutt. He’s head-hunting as the bell rings.

Round 6: Cabrera a little busier to start this round, but he can’t keep Cruz off of him. Cruz taking advantage of Cabrera’s hands being low. Cruz throws a right to the body. Another body shot is followed by a left hand on the button. That left hand is getting through every time and now there’s a right that Cabrera eats. Cruz hunting for a knockout, but Cabrera’s chin is holding up for now. Body shot by Cruz. Referee calls for time so they can fix Cabrera’s tape. Cruz with a body shot on the reset.

Round 7: Cruz steps forward and blasts Cabrera with a right. He follows with another. Cabrera playing with fire eating these punches. Cruz going to the body to keep Cabrera guessing. Cabrera keeps that jab in Cruz’s face, but Cruz is timing a counter off of them every time. There’s a quick combo for Cabrera. Cabrera scoring with Cruz against the ropes. Cruz puts a stop to that with another hard counter punch. Cruz blocks a three-punch combo. Cabrera goes back to the body. Strong finish by Cabrera.

Round 8: Cabrera opens with a left hand. Big right by Cruz. Cabrera taking his time with Cruz in the corner. Cabrera not pulling the trigger though. Overhand right scores for Cruz. Referee warns Cruz about a headbutt again. There’s a point deduction. More power punches from Cabrera who looks like he’s actually dodging into some of them. Cruz continues to land and Cabrera is keeping his composure at least.

Round 9: Cruz hits the body. He goes back to the left and it is on the money. Cabrera reluctant to do more than jab with Cruz bearing down on him. Body shot by Cruz. Cruz mixing in a jab now. Left hand by Cabrera. Cabrera letting his hands go but he’s catching a lot of glove. Another high right scores for Cruz.

Cruz lands a pair of power punches. He fires a right hand down the middle. Another right hand smacks Cabrera. Cabrera just muscling Cruz into the corner, referee calls for a break. Cabrera does it again and the referee separates them. Jabs by Cabrera are answered by a Cruz flurry.

Round 11: Referee tells the boxers to chill on the grappling, they both look a little low on gas. They trade body shots as Cabrera just tackles Cruz into the ropes. Lots of clinching going on. Right hand hand shot scores for Cruz. Cruz lands another hard right and stumbles, that’s a slip. Cabrera with a straight left to the body, That left hand hits for Cruz.
