“King” will look to extend his current winning streak to an impressive three straight in the co-main event of UFC Austin in next weekend. After a stunning 33-second upset knockout of Grant Dawson last month, Green turns around unscathed for his battle with New Zealand’s Hooker in what will be the first five-round non-title co-main event on a UFC Fight Night card in promotional history.
The lightweight clash precedes the main event between Green and Hooker’s fellow contenders Beneil Dariush and Arman Tsarukyan. Dariush makes for a big-name top contender opponent that Tsarukyan has been seeking, but with lightweight’s peak still getting sorted, a win leaves everyone remaining in somewhat interesting waters. Perhaps the UFC would go an unofficial tournament route and match the winners of the top-billed UFC Austin bouts. In the case that those two are Green and Tsarukyan, the 37-year-old 47-fight veteran (31-14-1, 1 NC) wants nothing to do with the rising contender.
“I got a lot of people that want my name, a lot of people that want to fight me,” Green told The Schmo. “A lot of people are saying that they want to get down now all of the sudden that I’m hot. Would I want to fight those guys? That Arman guy is f***ing boring. I can’t stand watching him fight. Every time I’ve watched him fight, I go to sleep. Then he calls out, ‘50 g’s! Dana [White], give me 50 g’s!’ I’m like, ‘For what?! What did you do? That was terrible.’
“I don’t like to fight the boring guys, those guys f***ing suck. That’s just f***ing weird, those guys are weird. I respect Beneil, the work Beneil’s put in. I like Beneil, but that Arman guy is just a terrible f***ing fighter. I had to already do that with Dawson and Dawson was a sleeper. I don’t want to keep fighting the boring guys, those guys suck.”
Green’s current run began with a high-profile matchup against his fellow lightweight veteran Tony Ferguson this past July. Ferguson succumbed to Green via a third-round arm-triangle choke submission, giving Green his first submission win since his UFC debut against Jacob Volkmann in February 2013.
Known for his striking acumen, Green fancies himself a boxer who is always down to throw hands. Often in discussions as the best boxer in the UFC is the former featherweight champion Max Holloway, who has recently teased a return to lightweight for a possible clash with Justin Gaethje. Green likes the sound of a fight like that more than the aforementioned Tsarukyan, assuming he gets the job done at UFC Austin.
“They’ve been saying Max Holloway’s the best boxer in the UFC,” Green said. “I’m like, ‘Bro, my boxing’s pretty f***ing cold.’ Let’s find out who’s the better boxer.
“He was talking about coming to fight Gaethje. Nah, you gotta come see me first. But I gotta crack that top 10 before I can get him.”
Before Green can worry about the next step in his career, he’ll seek his ninth UFC bonus by getting through Hooker, who has also been resurgent in recent outings. Hooker, 33, has also won two straight, defeating Jalin Turner and Claudio Puelles.
“I’m expecting a blood brawl,” Green said of his Hooker matchup. “I’m expecting us to go out there, do a fight of the night, performance, it would be my No. 10 or No. 11. I’m losing count of how many fight of the nights I’ve got. So, I’m just expecting to win another award.”

Plenty of fun options for Green if he continues to ascend but Holloway is not one I ever considered. Yes, please.
