A lightweight matchup between Diego Ferreira and Grant Dawson has been removed from the UFC’s event on Oct. 2 after Ferreira suffered an injury in training.
MMA Fighting confirmed the news following an initial report by MMA Junkie.
Ferreira tweeted Thursday that he hopes to re-booked again in 2021 once healthy.
Hey guys I know some of you guys already know I had to pull out of my fight Oct 2nd due to an injury. Although it really hurts, I know my health comes first and I hope to be back in the octagon this year pic.twitter.com/rzvOFAvSdM

Ferreira (17-4) is the No. 12-ranked lightweight in MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings. The 36-year-old Fortis MMA product has lost back-to-back bouts against Beneil Dariush and Gregor Gillespie.
Dawson (17-1) is one of the UFC’s more intriguing recent prospects and has accumulated an undefeated 6-0 record under the Zuffa umbrella, though five of those wins came in either the featherweight division or at a catchweight. He scored a third-round knockout of Leonardo Santos with just one second left on the clock in his return to lightweight in March.
The UFC’s Fight Night event on Oct. 2 is expected to be headlined by a light heavyweight battle between Thiago Santos and Johnny Walker.
