Round 1

Shevchenko comes out in her southpaw, Murphy as the orthodox. A feeling our process from both women to start. Shevchenko is holding the center but Murphy is unwilling to get near her. Shevchenko lands a lead hook and Murphy is again keeping a big distance.

Shevchenko is much faster and she’s stepping in with more intent than we’ve seen from her before. A kick from the champion gets caught by Murphy but Shevchenko rattles a pair of lefts into Murphy who drops the leg and retreats.

Shevchenko is coming forward with much more aggression. She seems to have zero regard for Murphy’s offense and Murphy looks incredibly wary in there. Shevchenko is landing kicks and hooks with regularity now and Murphy’s right eye is starting to swell. Murphy desperately needs a takedown or something to earn some modicum of respect.

Beautiful right hook lands from Shevchenko and Murphy is now really starting to second-guess her self. Barely throwing anything and to make matters worse, Shevchenko grabs a bodylock and dumps her to the floor with short time. One way traffic.

MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 Shevchenko.

Round 2

Shevchenko isn’t even breathing heavy. Of course not but there really was no silver lining for Murphy in that first round. She’s looking a little more spry to start the second though, more active with her hands early at least.

Shevchenko looks to force a clinch early, perhaps feeling that her takedown at the end of the first was very easy but it’s a bit forced and Murphy stuffs it, then turns Shevchenko to the fence and now she’s working a single-leg. No joy thus far but this is her best work by far in the fight. Shevchenko is able to limp-leg out though and they are back in space.

Every time Murphy tries to step in, she gets cracked. She’s 4 of 30 on her strike attempts. That’s rough. But now she’s trying to push the action more and so she’s getting countered more. I don’t know what Murphy can really do here. Shevchenko is seeing every attack from a mile out.

Murphy steps in and Shevchenko ducks under for a body clinch and then gets the takedown, this time with two minutes to work. Shevchenko is in top-half but Murphy is doing a good job on defense. Shevchenko is forced mostly into control, flattening Murphy out but she’s not landing much offense. She’s just trying to clear the leg to step out and into half and then crucifix.

With short time, Shevchenko decides to posture and land some elbows and she should really just do that next time. She may get a stoppage.

MMAFighting scores the round 10-9 Shevchenko, 20-18 Shevchenko overall.

Round 3

Murphy’s corner is trying to be positive about her performance thus far but that feels more like false confidence. Murphy is getting outclassed in every aspect. If she wants to make a real run, she’s going to have to throw caution to the wind and hope to roll snake eyes.

Shevchenko right back to work in the third. Controling the distance and chewing Murphy every time the challenger steps in. Murphy’s face is marked up and the only thing she’s offering is a wild lead hook from a mile off. Don’t know what the strike stats are right now but they cannot be good for Murphy.

Shevchenko now starting to up her volume as Murphy recedes into herself. Not landing anything super clean but scoring. Body kicks have been the most effective but the counter hook is also on point. And Shevchenko is starting to chew up the lead leg of Murphy as well. This is simply target practice. Murphy needs to do something or else she’s just going to lose a big decision.

With short time, Shevchenko times a clinch and ducks under to the back. She holds onto it until the horn.

MMAFighting scores the round 10-9 Shevchenko, 30-27 Shevchenko overall.

Round 4

Murphy’s corner isn’t being honest at this point. Or at least, they’re giving her advice on how to survive the fight, not on how to win. If Murphy is just happy to be here, okay. But that’s not what she said her goal was.

Both women looks to be in great shape at least. Entering the championship rounds and neither woman is breathing heavily.

More of the same to start the fourth. Shevchenko is coming forward more now and trying to up her activity. This has the feeling that if she ever wants to really turn on the afterburners, Murphy is in trouble.

Kicks galore from Shevchenko, to the body and legs. Jumping front kick from Shevchenko barely misses and that might’ve ended the fight. More power coming from the champion now.

Murphy gets cracked with a right hook behind the ear!! She was circling out and Shevchenko popped her with a head kick and Murphy is on rubber legs. She’s running away and Shevchenko is in pursuit and ripping shots into her. Shevchenko grabs a takedown and throws Murphy down! Murphy is trying to hold on but Shevchenko is in top-half and now she’s working elbows. BIG ELBOWS FROM THE CHAMPION! Murphy is in danger! And that’s it! Valentina Shevchenko gets the finish!
