Jalin Turner picked up arguably his biggest win to date on the UFC 266 prelims after finishing previously undefeated prospect Uros Medic in the opening round.
It was a picture perfect performance from The Contender Series veteran as he came out and showcased his striking skills, which overwhelmed Medic and put him on the ground. From there, Turner wasted no time taking the back and locking up the rear naked choke with Medic tapping out at 4:01 in the first round.
It was Turner’s third win a row overall and second consecutive finish by submission.
“I’ve been working grappling, training, striking,” Turner said afterwards. “I’m trying to be well rounded. I want to be a champion one day, I’m working towards it.”
While he’s best known for his striking, Turner was ready to show off his grappling early and often after taking Medic to the ground during an early exchange that set the pace for the rest of the fight.
With the threat of the takedown looming, Medic looked hesitant to commit to his punches, which then allowed Turner to back him up against the cage where he started unloading with vicious combinations.
After a punch slipped through to the body, Medic was left rattled and Turner seized on the opening with a flurry of shots until the fight went back down to the floor. That’s where Turner locked up the submission and just continued to tighten his grip until Medic had no choice but to tap.
Now 4-2 in the UFC, Turner has long been considered a fighter to watch but lately he’s looked better than ever and this latest victory is just another example of the talent he possesses.
