Don Madge went unbeaten during a brief stint in the UFC and now he’s headed to the PFL.
MMA Fighting has confirmed with sources with knowledge of the signing that Madge (9-3-1) is set to compete in the 2022 PFL lightweight season and that he will make his debut for the organization at the Oct. 27 PFL Championship event against Nathan Williams (13-7).
The news was first announced by Madge via Instagram in a post that has since been deleted.
In his past two fights, Madge went 2-0 for the UFC with wins over Fares Ziam and Te Edwards. “Magic Man” has not fought since September 2019 as his past three bookings have fallen through. A March 2021 meeting with Nasrat Haqparast was cancelled due to Madge having visa issues and an already rescheduled meeting with Guram Kutateladze in July was cancelled due to a Kutateladze injury.
Madge did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding his departure from the UFC, only showing gratitude to the promotion for the opportunity to compete there.
“As many of you are aware, the past two years since my last fight have been difficult for me, just as they have been for many others around the world,” Madge wrote on Instagram. “Between opponents pulling out, lockdowns and visa delays resulting from the pandemic, I haven’t been able to be as active as I would have liked.”
“While I truly enjoyed being a UFC athlete and I’m so thankful for my time there, it was time to turn a new page in my career and start fresh,” he added. “I am hungry to compete again this year, and in 2022, I am coming for that [PFL] world and $1,000,000 prize.”
