Raphael Assuncao has a tough task ahead as he looks to snap the longest losing streak of his career.
MMA Fighting confirmed that Assuncao (27-8) has booked his next challenge for a Dec. 18 UFC event, where he will face Ricky Simon (18-3) in a bantamweight bout. The matchup was first reported by MMA DNA.
Following a second-round knockout loss to Cody Garbrandt at UFC 250 in June of last year, Assuncao finds himself on the first three-fight losing skid of his career. The loss to Garbrandt came after setbacks against top contenders Cory Sandhagen and Marlon Moraes. Assuncao, 39, hasn’t scored a victory since outpointing Rob Font at UFC 226 in July 2018.
Simon, 29, is heading in the other direction as he has strung together three consecutive victories, most recently defeating Brian Kelleher by unanimous decision at UFC 258 in February. His streak also includes wins over Gaetano Pirrello and Ray Borg.
A location has yet to be determined for the UFC’s Dec. 18 show.
