Alex Perez vs. Matt Schnell pushed to Sept. 4 UFC event

A battle between exciting flyweight contenders will get its third new date.

Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that the matchup between Alex Perez and Matt Schnell has been shifted one week from Aug. 28 to Sept. 4 at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas. The reason for the move is unknown at this time. MMA DNA was first to report the change.

This is the fourth different booking date for Perez after falling short in his quest to become flyweight champion against Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255 in November. The No. 8 ranked 125er in MMA Fighting’s global rankings was scheduled to meet Schnell in May before being forced to withdraw from the bout. Perez was slated to meet Askar Askarov at UFC Vegas 33 before Askarov had to withdraw due to an injury leading to Schnell stepping in for the Aug. 28 event. The 29-year-old enters the bout victorious in three of four, and 11 out of 13.

Schnell began the year with a split decision win over Tyson Nam in January before dropping a unanimous decision to Rogerio Bonterin — who replaced Perez — at UFC 262.

The UFC’s Sept. 4 event will be headlined by a middleweight bout between Derek Brunson, No. 5 in MMA Fighting’s global rankings, and Darren Till, who shares the 10th spot in the global rankings.
