Derrick Lewis won’t be giving up any poundage in his second shot at a UFC title.
“The Black Beast” successfully weighed in at 264.5 pounds for Saturday’s vacant interim heavyweight championship bout opposite Ciryl Gane, which headlines UFC 265 at Toyoto Center in Houston. He came in 17.5 pounds heavier than Gane, who tipped the scales at 247 pounds.
The UFC 265 main event pits Lewis, the No. 3-ranked heavyweight in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings against Gane, who is currently tied with Curtis Blaydes at No. 4.
Of the 26 fighters that stepped to the scale at Friday’s official weigh-ins, the lone miss was Manel Kape, the No. 13 flyweight in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings.
Kape was the last fighter to weigh in and he needed to be covered by a box as he stripped down to attempt to make the 125 mark. Even with a one-pound allowance, Kape missed weight by three pounds coming in at 129 for his scheduled flyweight bout with Ode Osbourne.
The bout will proceed at a catchweight with Kape forfeiting 20 percent of his purse to Osbourne as a penalty, according to the UFC.
