One-time UFC heavyweight title challenger Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva came up short in his first bare-knuckle bout. But now, he’ll try his hand at bare-knuckle MMA as he headlines the upcoming Gamebred Fighting Championship 2 event on Sept. 11.
Silva clashes with fellow UFC veteran Alex Nicholson in a three-round main event headed to Biloxi, Miss. Gamebred FC founder and promoter Jorge Masvidal made the announcement during The MMA Hour on Wednesday.
Once considered an elite heavyweight, Silva has fallen on tougher times in recent years with a losing streak that dates back to 2015. The Brazilian dropped his final three fights in the UFC before exiting the promotion, and he’s since dropped three more bouts with two of those ending by way of knockout.
Silva made a single appearance in BKFC in 2019 and suffered a second-round knockout loss to Gabriel Gonzaga. Since then, he returned to MMA for a fight back in June and was stopped by knockout in a fight against Quentin Domingos for Megdan Fighting in Serbia.
In an attempt to get back on track, Silva will face off with a fellow veteran in Nicholson, who is also looking to return to the win column after his most recent appearance in 2019 ended in a loss under the PFL banner.
Overall, Nicholson is 1-3 in his past four fights after previously appearing in the UFC between 2015 and 2017.
In June, Nicholson popped up in BKFC, challenging heavyweight champion Joey Beltran following Beltran’s win over Sam Shewmaker. Now, it appears he’ll test himself in bare-knuckle MMA with the fight booked against Silva.
Gamebred Fighting Championships airs on the BKFC app with the event scheduled for Sept. 11 and more fights are expected to be announced in the coming days.
