UFC bantamweight Yana Kunitskaya’s pregnancy announcement wasn’t entirely met with open arms by fans and MMA observers.
One day after revealing a baby bump via Instagram, Kunitskaya is responding to those who speculated on whether she fought at UFC 264 while pregnant.
“Just to make clear!!! I didn’t fought pregnant!!!” wrote Kunitskaya, whose partner is UFC light heavyweight Thiago Santos. “In the left sight [sic] I am with my first son 2 months pregnant, there is right side 2nd month pregnant. It’s just how my body react. All you who keep txting [sic] me, mind your own business.”
Kunitskaya was stopped by Aldana via first-round TKO in her most recent octagon appearance, which took place on July 10. Online speculation centered around the size of her stomach relative to her fight date and pregnancy announcement on Instagram.
Kunitskaya and Santos this year made an April Fool’s joke about pregnancy, but MMA Fighting on Monday confirmed the announcement is real, and Kunitskaya expects to be out of action until 2022.
In several jurisdictions that regulate MMA, including Nevada, female fighters are required to prove they are not pregnant before competing. A person from Kunitskaya’s camp told MMA Fighting she took a pregnancy test before the Aldana fight and wasn’t pregnant.
Kunitskaya’s loss left her at 2-2 in her previous four outings. Santos, meanwhile, is set to headline a UFC Fight Night card on Oct. 2 against Johnny Walker.
