Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida will finally make his ONE Championship debut on Sept. 24, Singapore, against undefeated heavyweight Thomas Narmo, multiple people with knowledge of the booking told MMA Fighting.
Almeida (0-0) announced his transition from grappling to MMA and agreed to face Ji Won Kang earlier this year, but the bout eventually fell through. This time, the 13-time BJJ world champion and two-time ADCC gold medalist prepares to enter the cage for the first time after months of expectation and training at American Top Team.
"Buchecha" holds wins over the likes of Rodolfo Vieira, Gilbert Burns, Antonio Braga Neto, Kron Gracie, Andre Galvao, Garry Tonon, Felipe Pena, Leandro Lo and Rafael Lovato Jr. in jiu-jitsu and grappling matches.
Narmo (4-0, 1 no contest) first entered the ONE cage earlier this year against Alain Ngalani. The bout aired Friday on tape-delay and ended in a no-contest, with Narmo unable to continue after being on the receiving end of an accidental growing kick in the second round of their fight at One Championship: Battleground 2.
The promotion has yet to officially announce the main event attraction for the ONE Championship: Revolution, which takes place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
