Bellator 264 is down a bantamweight bout.
MMA Fighting confirmed with officials that Sabatello (11-1) is out of his fight with Johnny Campbell (21-13, 1 NC) that was to take place this Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. According to sources with knowledge of the cancellation, Sabatello was forced to withdraw after testing positive for COVID-19.
It is not yet known if officials are seeking a short-notice opponent to keep Campbell on the card.
This was to be Sabatello’s second Bellator bout after he spoiled the debut of former UFC bantamweight standout Brett Johns in May. Johns entered his first Bellator fight coming off of back-to-back UFC wins, but Sabatello utilized his wrestling to secure a convincing unanimous decision win and his fifth consecutive victory.
Bellator 264 proceeds with 10 scheduled bouts. The event is headlined by a middleweight championship bout between Gegard Mousasi and challenger John Salter.
