Muin Gafurov and Chad Anheliger will collide for a shot at a UFC contract inside the octagon at Dana White’s Contender Series on Sept. 9, multiple people confirmed the news to MMA Fighting following a report from Cageside Press.
Gafurov (17-3) competed twice under the ONE Championship banner in his second run in the promotion between 2018 and 2019, stopping Leandro Issa inside one round in his debut before losing a decision to John Lineker in 2019.
“Tajik,” 26, defeated Walter Zamora by unanimous decision in his most recent fight in Abu Dhabi last September.
Anheliger (10-5) is a two-division Rise FC champion in his native Canada, winning the promotion’s flyweight and bantamweight belts in 2018 and 2019.
Canada’s “The Monster,” 34, enters the octagon for the first time on an eight-fight winning streak with seven stoppages, four of those inside the opening round. In his most recent outing in November 2019, he defeated current The Ultimate Fighter 29 contestant Brady Hiestand by third-round TKO.
