Miranda Maverick did everything she could to earn victory against Maycee Barber at UFC Vegas 32.
During the contest, fans saw the flyweights batter each other for 15 minutes inside the UFC APEX in Las Vegas. But while pundits thought Maverick had done enough to earn the decision on the judges’ scorecards, it was Barber who walked away with a controversial split decision victory.
Now, less than 12 hours removed from the loss, the 24-year-old is congratulating Barber while also lamenting her lack of activity in the final frame.
“I did not do enough and remained too inactive in the 3rd round, among other things,” Maverick wrote on her Instagram. “I’ll be back better every time working on various skills. I do not know the will of God, but I accept it graciously. Congrats to Maycee Barber. Hold my spot. I have a feeling we’ll meet again soon P.S. I thought my eyes were bad.”
This setback not only snapped Maverick’s (9-3) five-fight win streak but also marked her first loss inside the UFC octagon. For Barber (9-2), the result got her back into the win column after coming up short in fights against Roxanne Modafferi and Alexa Grasso in her two previous outings.
