Diego Ferreira will face a stiff test to snap a two-fight losing skid.

Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that Ferreira will take on Grant Dawson at the UFC’s event on Oct. 2 at a location and venue yet to be announced. MMA Junkie was the first to report the booking.

Ferreira began 2020 by becoming the first fighter to submit Anthony Pettis at UFC 246 to pick up his sixth straight win. The 36-year-old wouldn’t fight again for the rest of the year and returned at February’s UFC Vegas 18 event and dropped a split decision to Beneil Dariush. Ferreira faced Gregor Gillespie in May at UFC Vegas 26 and was stopped via second-round TKO in the event’s Fight of the Night.

Dawson has won eight straight and makes his second appearance at 155 pounds. “KGD” moved up to the lightweight division and knocked Leonardo Santos out cold with one second left in their bout at UFC Vegas 22 in March. The Glory MMA standout is 5-0 inside the octagon since earning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in August 2017.

The UFC’s Oct. 2 event will be headlined by a 205-pound matchup between Thiago Santos and Johnny Walker.
