The fight brings together two fighters with a history of concussive performances. Tuivasa has won his past two fights by stoppage due to strikes, putting away Stefan Struve and Harry Hunsucker to rebound from a three-fight skid that endangered his status as a UFC fighter.
Hardy, one of the more polarizing figures in the MMA community, gets prime placement again despite a TKO loss to Marcin Tybura, the No. 8 fighter in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings. The former NFLer has performed extremely well against unranked fighters, defeating Yorgan de Castro and Maurice Greene prior to his most recent setback. But he’s also stumbled against Tybura and Alexander Volkov (in addition to a debut stumble against Allen Crowder), leaving Tuivasa the job of proving he deserves to be in the category of standout heavyweights.
