The Brazilian blasted Todorovic with a brutal series of right hands over the course of three rounds to secure his first victory with the promotion on Saturday night. When it was all over, the judges scored the fight 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 with Rodrigues getting the victory.
“This means a lot,” Rodrigues said following the win. “UFC here I am. I just fought two weeks ago and I just accept this fight because I’m a fighter and a fighter fights.
“I respect a lot, Dusko, he’s a good fighter. I know he’s tough, that’s why he’s in the UFC. I was ready for this three rounds.”
Coming off a first round knockout in his recent fight in LFA, Rodrigues was throwing powerful hands once again in his octagon debut. Rodrigues connected with several thudding right hands that were catching Todorovic, who was constantly moving forward but not displaying a whole lot of defense.
Rodrigues was also slick with his left jab, which he was following with the right hand that kept finding a home on the jaw of Todorovic.
As the fight continued, Rodriguez was doing much of the same while leading with his left hand either with a jab or a shot to the body and then following with a right hand behind it. While Todorovic was somehow able to survive the onslaught, he was taking a lot more punches than he was dishing out in return.
Knowing he was down heading into the third round, Todorovic started to take more chances with his combinations but Rodrigues was firing back with just as much intensity.
While Rodrigues was slowing down with his overall output, he was still testing Todorovic’s durability with every punch thrown. Rodrigues’ ability to consistently find a home for that same left-right combination was paying dividends throughout the fight and that helped lead him to the win.
A solid addition to the UFC middleweight division, Rodrigues promised to take his time and work his way up the ranks now that he’s finally earned a spot on the roster.
