Alves went face first to the canvas as Wells’ momentum sent him briefly tumbling over his foe in the first big exchange of the second frame. Several right hands, at least one of which came well after referee Chris Tognoni intervened, sealed the deal.
Check out the finish below.
Wells’ enthusiasm for landing the knockout punch was there early as he charged after the veteran Alves and winged huge hooks. Alves managed to get out of the way and even used that momentum to his advantage, jumping into a guillotine that forced Wells to pause. By the end of the first, it was questionable whether Wells could continue at the pace he’d set.
But as it turned out, he didn’t need much time to cut some footage for his highlight reel in his octagon debut, which upped his current winning streak to three bouts. Alves, a TUF Brazil 3 winner, continues to bounce between wins and losses after a quick stoppage win over Mounir Lazzez in his previous outing.
