A battle between up and coming strawweights will take place in the octagon this fall.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a matchup between Lupita Godinez and Sam Hughes will take place at the UFC’s event on Oct. 9 at a location and venue yet to be officially announced. ESPN Deportes was first to report the booking.
Godinez will look to pick up her first promotional win after she came up short in her UFC debut. “Loopy” stepped in on short notice to welcome Jessica Penne back to the octagon and was on the wrong end of a split decision at April’s UFC Vegas 24 event. It was the first pro loss for the former LFA strawweight champion, snapping a five-fight winning streak
Hughes will also be seeking her first octagon win in her third attempt. “Sampage” faced Tecia Torres on less than a week’s notice at UFC 256 and suffered a first-round TKO loss via doctor’s stoppage due to an eye injury. The 28-year-old faced Loma Lookboonmee in her sophomore appearance, dropping a unanimous decision at UFC Vegas 25 in May.
