Two of the UFC’s best flyweights will meet in a pivotal battle this summer.

Top-ranked contenders Askar Askarov and Alex Perez have agreed to fight on July 31 at UFC Vegas 33. MMA Fighting confirmed the news following an initial report by

Askarov (14-0-1) is the UFC’s No. 2-ranked flyweight. Following a run as ACB champion, the 28-year-old has continued his winning ways inside the octagon, scoring victories over Joseph Benavidez, Alexandre Pantoja, and Tim Elliott. Notably, he fought to a draw with current UFC champion Brandon Moreno in his 2019 UFC debut.

Perez (24-6) returns for the first time since his failed title challenge against Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255, which he lost via first-round submission. Currently ranked No. 4 in the UFC’s flyweight division, Perez has won six of his eight octagon appearances, highlighted by victories over Jussier Formiga, Jordan Espinosa, and Mark De La Rosa.

UFC Vegas 33 takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. A middleweight bout pitting Uriah Hall against Sean Strickland headlines the event.
