Ricky Glenn reveals he’s agreed to terms on new four-fight deal after 37-second knockout win at UFC Vegas 29

Ricky Glenn may not have received a performance bonus for his 37-second KO win at UFC Vegas 29, but he looks to have earned something even better in return.

Glenn returned after a nearly three-year layoff with a blistering finish of Joaquim Silva during the preliminary card of this past Saturday’s event at the APEX. Despite the long road back, “The Gladiator” didn’t receive an extra $50,000 for the fastest finish of the night.

After the win, Glenn told Michael Bisping that he was ready for another opponent on the same night. While he wasn’t going to get that opportunity, Glenn revealed that he competed on the last fight of his contract against Silva and since agreed to terms on a new deal with the UFC.

“I would like to fight by the fall, end of summer would be nice,” Glenn told MMA Fighting while appearing on What the Heck. “Ideally, I want to fight at least three times a year, three to four times a year would be perfect. They actually—I haven’t got it yet—I’m supposed to be getting the details on my new contract, a four-fight deal. They sent my manager some stuff and they already kind of worked that out.

“That was the last one on my fight contract. I felt like this was kind of like an interview again. I was very thankful they gave me the opportunity to fight. I had been out for so long, they knew I had a surgery, I was planning on coming back. I thought they might cut me because sometimes guys sit out too long because of injuries and they get looked over, passed on, and cut. But I feel like if I had lost this fight, they probably wouldn’t have re-signed me. I probably would’ve had to go to a different promotion.”

Glenn was 3-3 competing inside the octagon heading into the bout with all six fights going to the judges’ scorecards. With his first finish in over five years on the books, the 32-year-old thought a performance bonus—which ultimately went to Matt Brown and Seung Woo Choi—was all but wrapped and packed.

“I kind of had to check myself, ‘All right, settle down,’” Glenn explained. “I’m thankful I got the victory, that’s what I came there for; to get the job done and be victorious. But, man, I guess with my circumstances—out almost three years, I thought that would’ve had more weight—the performance alone, I didn’t get hit at all, it was really quick, I thought it was an almost, for sure 50 Gs.”

With a new deal soon to be officially inked, Glenn doesn’t want to wait long to climb the rankings of the UFC’s lightweight division. Initially, he had his sights set on possibly being the final opponent for Donald Cerrone, but now isn’t sure if that would be the right move.

“I kind of thought about ‘Cowboy’ but he’s coming off of so many losses, I’m not sure if it would really look that great beating him right now or not,” Glenn said of Cerrone. “He’s a big name, but I don’t know. I’d take it [if they offered it to me].

“But don’t really have any names. I would like to fight probably a couple of fights and then start getting into the top-10.”
