After some back-and-forth online, Angela Hill and Tecia Torres have put pen to paper for a rematch this summer at UFC 265.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans told MMA Fighting the UFC strawweights will meet at the pay-per-view event, which is expected to take place Aug. 7 at a venue to be announced. MMA DNL first reported the matchup.
Former teammates on coach Gilbert Melendez’s squad on The Ultimate Fighter 20, Hill and Torres squared off at UFC 188 in what was Hill’s third fight as an MMA professional. Torres outworked Hill to earn a unanimous decision, improving her record to 6-0.
The strawweights went on to become regulars on the UFC’s 115-pound roster. Hill earned a 7-8 record as one of the promotion’s busiest female fighters, while Torres went 6-5. Most recently, Hill outpointed Ashley Yoder in a rematch, and Torres took home a first-round TKO over Sam Hughes after a doctor’s stoppage.
Hill was supposed to be Torres’ opponent at UFC 256, but a positive COVID-19 test forced her to withdraw. She later accused her one-time opponent of avoiding her, drawing a terse response from Torres online.
One of Torres’ rebuttals was that she desired an opponent ranked above her. But with Hill sitting at No. 12, two spots below her in the UFC’s promotional rankings, it appears she’s conceded on that request.
UFC 265’s main card features a bantamweight title bout between two-division champ Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena.
