Sean Soriano is back.

MMA Fighting confirmed with sources with knowledge of the booking that Soriano (14-6) is set to compete inside the octagon for the first time in over six years when he faces Christos Giagos (18-8) in a lightweight bout at UFC 262 on May 15 in Houston. Soriano replaces Joel Alvarez, who was forced to withdraw due to visa issues.

The new matchup was first reported by MMA Junkie.

Soriano is currently on a three-fight win streak across three different promotions. In his most recent outing, he scored a first-round TKO of Bellator vet Noad Lahat at a UAE Warriors show in March, following wins for Cage Fury Fighting Championships and Classic Entertainment and Sports.

In his first run with the UFC, Soriano fought three times for the promotion from 2014-2015. He came up short on each occasion, losing to Charles Rosa, Chas Skelly, and Tatsuya Kawajiri. He’s gone 6-3 since returning to the regional and international scene.

Giagos looks to stay on the winning track after defeating Carlton Minus by unanimous decision in December. “The Spartan” has won three of his past four fights and is currently in his second run with the UFC.

UFC 262 will be headlined by Charles Oliveira taking on Michael Chandler for a vacant UFC lightweight championship.
