Veteran UFC contenders will soon clash at UFC 265.
MMA Fighting confirmed with sources with knowledge of the matchup that Jose Aldo (29-7) will fight Pedro Munhoz (19-5, 1 NC) in a bantamweight contest at the UFC’s upcoming Aug. 7 pay-per-view event. The event’s location is still to be determined. The matchup was first reported by Combate.
Aldo, a former UFC champion at featherweight, recently snapped a three-fight skid when he defeated Marlon Vera by unanimous decision this past December. “Junior” was 0-2 at 135 pounds up to that point, with losses to Marlon Moraes and Petr Yan; the latter bout was for a vacant bantamweight title.
Munhoz also picked up an important win in his most recent outing at a Fight Night event in February, when he earned a unanimous decision win in a rematch against Jimmie Rivera. He had entered that fight with back-to-back decision losses to Frankie Edgar and Aljamain Sterling, but overall he has won eight of his past 11 fights.
A headliner has not been announced for UFC 265. A championship bout is expected to take place on the card with two-division champion Amanda Nunes defending her bantamweight title against Julianna Pena.
