The fight offers one of the more exciting matchups on paper with two of the most action-first strikers in the featherweight division. Burgos may bring extra fire into the matchup given his most recent appearance, a disappointing decision loss to Josh Emmett, who managed to prevail despite a serious knee injury. Prior to that, Burgos won three straight, stopping two of his three opponents.
At No. 9, Burgos has to hold the line against vet Barboza, who’s trying to reinvent himself at featherweight after a 1-4 skid at lightweight prompted him to search for redemption elsewhere. Most recently, Barboza outpointed Makwan Amirkhani to keep his dreams alive at 145. At No. 13 in the UFC’s rankings, he’ll need to beat opponents on Burgos to prove he can climb.
