Schnell is the No. 8 ranked flyweight in the promotion’s rankings, while Bontorin stands at No. 9. Schnell picked up 20 percent of Bontorin’s purse when the Brazilian missed weight for the bantamweight fight, coming in at 137 pounds. That will rule out a performance bonus for Bontorin, who’s already in need of a win after back-to-back setbacks, including decision loss to Ray Borg where he came in heavy at 127 pounds.
After a pair of setbacks in his first two UFC appearances, Schnell, a vet of The Ultimate Fighter 24, has racked up a 5-1 record in the octagon, most recently picking up a split decision over Tyson Nam in a meeting at UFC Fight Island 8.
