Thiago Santos vs. Johnny Walker in the works for UFC event on Sept. 25

A light heavyweight showdown between Thiago Santos and Johnny Walker is currently in the works for an upcoming UFC event on Sept. 25.

Multiple sources confirmed to MMA Fighting that verbal agreements are in place for the matchup, although contracts have not been issued or signed just yet. Combate initially reported the news.

Santos will seek to get back on track when he returns in September after dropping his past three fights in a row. After battling to a close split decision against Jon Jones in a light heavyweight title fight, Santos took time off to recover from knee injuries sustained during that five round battle.

Unfortunately, Santos then dropped his next two bouts as well after falling to Glover Teixeira and Aleksandar Rakic in his most recent appearances. Now he’ll look to return to the win column while facing a fellow Brazilian in Walker, who seeks the biggest win of his career against a former title contender.

Walker was once touted as the future of the 205-pound division after he made quite a splash in his first few fights with the UFC including three consecutive knockouts without a single opponent making it past the two-minute mark of the opening round.

He lost his first fight inside the octagon in a stunning upset after Corey Anderson knocked him out and that was followed by a decision loss to Nikita Krylov. Walker steadied himself before returning with a knockout win over Ryan Spann in his last appearance and now he’ll look to add Santos to his growing resume of highlights.

As of now, the UFC hasn’t officially announced the Sept. 25 card and no main event has been confirmed just yet.
