MMA Fighting confirmed with officials that Mix (13-1) will now fight replacement opponent Albert Morales (10-6-1) at Bellator’s upcoming May 7 event at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Morales steps in on short notice for Gallagher, who withdrew from the bout earlier this month due to a shoulder injury.
The change was first reported by MMA Junkie.
Gallagher explained on Instagram that he had hoped his matchup with Mix would be postponed so that he could keep his chances of fighting Mix and competing for a title later this year alive.
Instead, Mix now draws Morales, a veteran of the UFC who went 1-4-1 in six appearances for that promotion. Morales has won two straight and three of his past four fights competing on the California regional scene.
Mix is looking to rebound from the first loss of his career, a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Juan Archuleta in a vacant bantamweight championship bout at Bellator 246 in September. He won 13 consecutive bouts to begin his pro career with nine of those wins coming by way of submission including his two Bellator victories.
Bellator 258 is headlined by a bantamweight championship bout between Archuleta and Sergio Pettis, plus Anthony Johnson and Yoel Romero make their Bellator debuts in an opening round matchup of the light heavyweight grand prix.
