No one understands what Chris Weidman is going through better than Anderson Silva.

On Saturday night at UFC 261, Weidman suffered a gruesome broken leg after throwing his first kick in a fight against Uriah Hall. As soon as Weidman’s kick landed, his leg snapped and a second later the former middleweight champion fell to the ground in agonizing pain.

Weidman was then carried out on a stretcher before he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The injury happened in eerily similar fashion after Silva suffered a broken leg in his rematch with Weidman back in 2013 and he was quick to send a message of support to his former opponent after seeing what happened to him.

“My deepest and most sincere sentiments champ,” Silva wrote on Instagram. “Have faith, I wish you a speedy recovery. In this moment I wish you and your family light, love and knowledge.

“To the fans of the sport, please respect this moment of this incredible warrior and let’s wish that he is 100% very recovered soon. May God bless you and your family Chris Weidman.”

After Silva suffered the broken leg in his fight with Weidman, he had to undergo surgery but eventually the Brazilian legend returned to action 13 months later. He earned a win against Nick Diaz in his first fight back in 2015.

Following the event, UFC president Dana White said that Weidman was in stable condition at the hospital with plans for the surgery to take place on his leg on Sunday.
