UFC Vegas 24 weigh-in results: Zarah Fairn misses catchweight limit by eight pounds, bout cancelled

The official UFC Vegas 24 weigh-ins featured a rarity: A fighter failing to hit the mark for a catchweight bout.

While middleweight headliners Robert Whittaker (185.5) and Kelvin Gastelum (185) made the mark as usual for Saturday’s show at UFC APEX in Las Vegas, preliminary fighter Zarah Fairn badly missed weight for a 139-pound catchweight bout opposite Josiane Nunes. Fairn weighed in at 147 pounds, eight pounds over the limit, while Nunes came in at 136 pounds.

Originally scheduled as a bantamweight bout, the UFC announced earlier that Fairn-Nunes would be changed to a catchweight. Following Zairn’s miss, the bout was officially cancelled due to “weight management issues” with Zairn.

Nunes’ team told MMA Fighting that the fighter will be paid her show money.

Fairn has previously competed twice at 145 pounds in the UFC, losing to Felicia Spencer and Megan Anderson.

UFC veteran Jeremy Stephens came in at 156 pounds for his first lightweight appearance since December 2012. He meets Drakkar Klose (156) in Saturday’s co-main event.

One other fighter missed weight on her initial attempt, flyweight Tracy Cortez. She came in at 126.5 pounds, half a pound over the limit. The bout will proceed at a catchweight with Cortez forfeiting 20 percent of her purse to opponent Justine Kish (125.5).
