Poliana Botelho has a new opponent for the first UFC event of May.
The Nova Uniao fighter was first booked against Ji Yeon Kim and then agreed to face Mayra Bueno Silva as a replacement. However, with “Sheetara” out due to a back injury, Botelho now takes on flyweight Luana Carolina on May 1, both fighters confirmed on social media following a report from Combate.
The UFC has yet to officially announce the location for the Fight Night event as well as its location.
Carolina (6-2) makes her return to the octagon 10 months after a devastating kneebar loss to Ariane Lipski in Abu Dhabi which caused a partial tear to her left knee’s anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and a medial tibia edema. “Dread” is 1-1 in the UFC.
Botelho (8-3) successfully debuted in the UFC flyweight division with a win over Lauren Murphy in April 2019, but then lost a decision to Gillian Robertson in her most recent appearance this past October. Botelho has won three of five in the UFC, including a decision over Pearl Gonzalez.
