After a lengthy war of words, Adesanya and Costa finally had the chance to settle their score on Fight Island and it didn’t turn out well for the challenger.
Costa had said and done all the right things to earn his shot at Adesanya, constantly running down “The Last Stylebender” in interviews and going 5-0 to start his UFC career. He defeated Yoel Romero in a back-and-forth battle at UFC 241 to make himself the undisputed No. 1 contender.
Adesanya was coming off of his own forgettable title defense against Romero, but reminded everyone why he’s one of the UFC’s most popular champions as he decimated a charging Costa and scored a second-round TKO to record his second consecutive successful championship defense.
