As promised, Israel Adesanya hit the scales with room to spare for Saturday’s UFC 259 main event.
“The Last Stylebender” successfully weighed in at 200.5 pounds for his light heavyweight title challenge of reigning champion Jan Blachowicz, who came in at 205 pounds. Weighing almost five pounds less than Blachowicz, the UFC’s 185-pound champion looks to become the UFC’s fifth champion to hold two titles simultaneously, the first to do so with an undefeated record, and the first to do so with the middleweight and light heavyweight belts.
UFC 259 features two more title fights on the main card, which were also made official at Friday’s weigh-ins. Two-division champion Amanda Nunes weighed in at 145 pounds for her featherweight title defense against Megan Anderson (144.5), and Petr Yan weighed in at 135 pounds for his bantamweight title defense against Aljamain Sterling (134.5).
All but one of the 30 fighters scheduled to compete on Saturday’s fight card successfully made weight, including former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz (136), four-time flyweight title challenger Joseph Benavidez (125.5), and recent light heavyweight title challenger Thiago Santos (206).
The lone miss was Askar Askarov, who came in at 127 pounds, one pound over the flyweight limit (including a one-pound allowance for non-title fights). Askarov forfeits 20 percent of his purse to Benavidez and their bout proceeds as a 127-pound catchweight affair, per the UFC.
Light heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira was also on hand to weigh in as an alternate for the main event. He successfully made championship weight at 204.5 pounds.
