Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida won’t be making his MMA debut in April after all, MMA Fighting has learned.
“Buchecha” was scheduled to face Ji Won Kang at ONE on TNT 2 on April 14, but “Mighty Warrior” withdrew due to injuries sustained in his previous win over Amir Aliakbari in March, MMA Fighting reported earlier this month.
ONE Championship attempted to find a new opponent to face the grappling wizard on short notice, sources said, but couldn’t come to terms. Therefore, “Buchecha” will have to wait a little longer to step in the circular cage for the first time.
The promotion has yet to decide the plan going forward, but could end up re-booking Almeida vs. Kang for a future card, sources said.
“Buchecha” is training at American Top Team for his highly-anticipated MMA debut as a heavyweight after collecting 13 IBJJF world championships as a black belt and two ADCC golds. Kang, 5-0 in MMA, won all fights by way of knockout.
