Tsuyoshi Sudario fined for late shots following record-setting RIZIN knockout

Tsuyoshi Sudario being pulled off of a fallen Kazushi Miyamoto at RIZIN 27 on Sunday in Nagoya, Japan

Tsuyoshi Sudario’s latest RIZIN appearance was a rollercoaster.

The former sumo standout recorded the fastest knockout in RIZIN history on Sunday, needing just six seconds to put away Kazushi Miyamoto at RIZIN 27 in Nagoya, Japan. Afterwards, Sudario continued to throw strikes at a downed Miyamoto as referee Ryogaku Wada attempted to restrain him.

On Tuesday, officials announced via press release that Sudario has been penalized with a 25 percent pay cut.

The statement describes the incident as follows:

“The incident occurred after Sudario finished Miyamoto with a promotional record breaking knockout. Referee Ryogaku Wada waved off the fight in 6 seconds after Sudario landed a clean right hand to Miyamoto’s jaw. Sudario refused to stop attacking after the official stoppage. Sudario’s corner, Enson Inoue entered the ring and helped restrain Sudario, whereupon Miyamoto’s corner Noboru Uchida entered the ring and pushed Sudario. Inoue then responded by aggressively pushing Uchida and putting his hand on his neck. It was at this point that the officials were able to fully intervene.”

Uchida and Inoue have also received warnings for their involvement in the post-fight physicality; Uchida, for attacking Sudario, and Inoue, for attacking Uchida.

This is not the first time that Sudario has made headlines for bad behavior. His sumo career came to an unceremonious end in 2019 after allegedly physically and verbally assaulting attendants in August of that year. Then competing under the name “Takanofuji,” Sudario was soon after forced into retirement by the Japan Sumo Association for his actions.

Sudario made his MMA debut for RIZIN in September 2020 and is currently 3-0, with all of his wins coming by way of first-round KO/TKO.
