Gordon Ryan is the latest grappling superstar to join the ONE Championship roster, company leader Chatri Sityodtong announced Monday.
According to the announcement, Ryan will compete in under MMA and grappling in ONE, likely as a heavyweight. The promotion has yet to announce a date and ruleset for Ryan’s debut.
A black belt under Garry Tonon, who is 6-0 as a MMA fighter inside the ONE cage, Ryan has won multiple no-gi championships with wins over MMA veterans like Josh Barnett, Gabriel Gonzaga, Rousimar Palhares, Dillon Danis and Marcus "Buchecha" Almeida, who also recently signed a deal with ONE for his MMA debut.
Currently scheduled to rematch UFC veteran Vagner Rocha in a grappling match on March 26, “King” Ryan has made headlines over the past few weeks after an altercation with fellow jiu-jitsu star and former Strikeforce fighter Andre Galvao, slapping him twice in the face shortly after a win over Roberto Jimenez.
