Gina Carano releases first statement since being fired from ‘The Mandalorian’ to announce new film project

Gina Carano has broken her silence in the wake of being fired from “The Mandalorian” but she didn’t issue an apology or explanation for social media posts her former employers at Lucasfillm called “abhorrent.”

Instead, the 38-year-old former mixed martial artist announced a new project where she’s teaming up with conservative firebrand Ben Shapiro and his website The Daily Wire to produce and star in a new film project.

“The Daily Wire is helping make one of my dreams — to develop and produce my own film — come true,” Carano said in a statement released to Deadline. “I cried out and my prayer was answered.

“I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”

Carano came under fire earlier this week after posting several messages to her Instagram account that included one particular image that compared the plight of conservatives in America to Jews who were slaughtered during the holocaust in Nazi Germany.

Here is the text of that message that was later deleted from Carano’s social media account:

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”

Lucasfilm, which is owned by Disney, later released a statement that confirmed Carano was no longer employed by the studio, which effectively served as her firing from the “Star Wars” spinoff “The Mandalorian” where she previously appeared in seasons 1 and 2.

The statement called Carano’s social media post “unacceptable” as the studio sought to cut ties with the actress.

Carano had come under fire previously for separate posts on social media where she spoke out against wearing masks during the coronavirus pandemic, questioned the results of the 2020 Presidential election as well as an incident where she mocked gender pronouns on her Twitter account. Carano apologized for that latter incident after a heart-to-heart with former co-star Pedro Pascal from “The Mandalorian,” whose own sister came out as transgender just recently.

Now after being fired from the show for the social media posts it appears Carano isn’t attempting to mend fences but rather double down by teaming up with Shapiro to produce a new film along with his production company.

“We could not be more excited to be working with Gina Carano, an incredible talent dumped by Disney and Lucasfilm for offending the authoritarian Hollywood Left,” Shapiro said in a statement. “This is what Daily Wire exists to do: provide an alternative not just for consumers, but for creators who refuse to bow to the mob.

“We’re eager to bring Gina’s talent to Americans who love her, and we’re just as eager to show Hollywood that if they want to keep cancelling those who think differently, they’ll just be helping us build the Xwing to take down their Death Star.”

The Daily Wire studio previously released a film starring Thomas Jane and Radha Mitchell called “Run Hide Fight,” which was described as “Die Hard” during a school shooting, that received mostly negative reviews with the film currently maintaining a 25 percent score on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.
