UFC 268 holds the record for the most strikes thrown for any UFC event in the company’s history. Now, we take a look at what’s next for all the winners of this incredible event.
Justin Gaethje vs Micheal Chandler was what everyone knew it would be and more. Gaethje stayed composed and won the decision on every scorecard. This performance should put him next in line for the winner of the title fight in December.
Shane Burgos got the win after two years in a back and forth fight with Billy Quarantillo. Burgos is still young and needed this victory in order to be relevant in this division.
Next fight: Alex Caceres
Marlon Vera KO’ed Frankie Edgar in an empathetic fashion to get the biggest win of his career at the biggest stage. After losing to Jose Aldo, he has bounced back with a victory against a surging Davy Grant, and now finishing Frankie Edgar, the way he did, should bring him in contenders conversation.
Next fight: Cory Sandhagen
Rose Namajunas edged a decision against Weili Zhang. The rematch was nothing like the first one where Namajunas caught Weili with a head kick in the first round. Namajunas dropped a few rounds early in the fight but explored a weakness in Weili’s game, that she does not fight well from her back, and got the win. This might not be the last time we saw these two women fight.
Next fight: Carla Esparza
Kamaru Usman won the rematch against Colby Covington in a close fight. Usman’s winning streak in UFC is now 15, only one behind Anderson Silva. Usman has been dominant against all of his opponents not named Colby Covington. These two are the best two welterweights but they have fought twice already and both times Usman has had the better outing. There are few contenders in the division like Leon Edwards, Vicente Luque, and Khamzat Chimaev which are next for the pound for pound king.
