UFC 268 live blog: Frankie Edgar vs. Marlon Vera

This is the UFC 268 live blog for Frankie Edgar vs. Marlon Vera, a bantamweight main card fight for Saturday’s fight card at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The matchup features Edgar, who is tied with Pedro Munhoz as the No. 10 ranked bantamweight in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, against the unranked Vera. The Ecuadorian standout, of course, has not had the strength of schedule that Edgar has – nor the wins – to date, and that’s why UFC 268 is another pivotal matchup. In his most recent outing, Vera righted the ship with a decision over Davey Grant that came after a disappointing loss to ex-champ Jose Aldo.

Edgar, meanwhile, is one of the true iron men in the UFC with a 14-year career that saw him win and defend the lightweight belt before diminishing returns led him to shed weight. Now trying his hand at 135 pounds, Edgar is on the comeback trail after suffering a highlight-reel knockout against Cory Sandhagen in his most recent appearance. Edgar is 2-4 in his past six outings.
